Along with the various events that the PTA conducts every year, there are also many other services and programs that the PTA provides. Read on to see all of the great things that are going on in the school and community!
Art Goes to School (3/18/13 - 3/22/13 - Tentative)
Art Goes to School is a volunteer organization that brings art appreciation classes to our schools. Volunteers participate in workshops where they are trained in fine art...no prior experience is necessary! The volunteers then bring the art into the classroom, where they teach the children about the appreciation of fine art. Evans PTA makes a donation to this organization every year to support fine art being taught to our children.
Bulletin Board Updates
The PTA coordinates ongoing updates to the Citizen of the Month and PTA Bulletin Boards in the school, and also assists with hanging art and projects throughout the school as needed.
Cultural Art Assemblies
The Evans PTA sponsors several cultural assemblies that are held throughout the year for our children. In the 2011 - 2012 school year, some of the assemblies that were sponsored by the PTA include Motivational Media and Pioneer Living.
DARE
The PTA purchases DARE T-shirts and certificates for all 5th graders to create awareness and education around the dangers of drugs.
Drug Free Ribbons
Drug Free ribbons are purchased for all Evans students as a part of the effort to create awareness and further education around the dangers of drugs.
E-Communication and Website
Beginning in the 2011-2012 school year, the PTA went paperless, and all communications were sent home via e-mail. The PTA manages all e-communications and website development and maintenance.
Fire Prevention Poster Awards
As a part of the Fire Prevention awareness program, the Evans PTA purchases gift certificates for the Fire Prevention Award winners in each class.
Halloween Candy Drive (11/1/12 - 11/12/12)
The Halloween Candy Drive is a service where Evans families send in Halloween candy that they won't need. The candy is collected and brought to the Ronald McDonald house for children and families that are staying there.
Have a Heart (1/24/13 - 2/13/13)
Have a Heart is a service coordinated by the Evans PTA, where needed items, including toiletries, household items, and toys are collected and brought to the Ronald McDonald House for families in need.
Health and Welfare Needs
The Health and Welfare Committee of the PTA provides various Health and Welfare items for the children as needed.
One-Time Services or Programs
The Evans PTA often supplies the school with various special "one-time" items when they are needed. In 2011-2012, the PTA purchased a new custodial cart for Evans. In 2010-2011, the Evans PTA partnered with the other PTAs in the district to purchase a Star Lab, which is a portable planetarium that is used in the curriculum throughout the District. In past years, the PTA has also purchased ELMO projectors for use in the school.
Parties for Fundraising Winners
The PTA provides parties of either pretzel and juice or pizza for fundraising-winning classes. These include 1st class with 100% PTA membership and the highest number of Box Tops collected.
PTA Newsletter - Critter's Corner
The Critter's Corner was started in 2011-2012, as another way for parents and families to stay connected to all of the great things going on at the school, upcoming events, and programs. It also provides useful tips and educational information for families on a variety of topics.
School Beautification
The Evans PTA School Beautification Committee purchases flower beds, flower pots, and decorations to be placed at the front entrance of the school twice a year, and conducts various beautification projects including weeding, planting, and mulching.
Scholarships
Various scholarships and awards are sponsored by the Evans PTA for children throughout the District. These include Tom Blossom Awards, which are reading awards for children in Evans; Cherokee Evans Grads, which provides scholarships to two Cherokee graduates who attended Evans; and Middle School scholarships to four students across DeMasi and Marlton Middle Schools. In addition, the PTA makes a donation to Cherokee Project Graduation every year.
School Board Liaison
The School Board Liaisons of the PTA ensure that the PTA membership is aware of all District School Board updates. A member of the PTA attends each School Board meeting and provides updates on the latest District news at the monthly PTA meetings.
Fifth Grade Trip
Each year, the Evans PTA sponsors a trip for all fifth graders. In June 2012, the PTA sponsored a 5th grade class trip to the GreatTimes Day Camp.
Yearbooks
The Evans PTA purchases the yearbooks for all Evans students and staff each year.
